The organic compounds known as salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide are considered to be the strongest ingredients to use in Acne Treatment formulas. They work by loosening and peeling the infected skin that clogs the pores and by protecting against further skin shedding and sebum blockage. While both ingredients are proven to work well, salicylic acid is gentler on the skin and produces fewer side effects than the use of benzoyl peroxide.
